Description

This is our latest modified RW 110 watt transformer. These transformers were one of the most popular transformer Lionel ever made.  The were introduced in 1945 and were still produced in 1954.  They were very popular with folks who only ran one train but wanted to add some of those terrific accessories. that were power hungry.

These were very  powerful unit and will run virtually any O or O27 engine, and run a multitude of accessories, switches, RCS tracks and some of those wonderful toys Lionel and other companies have made for our layouts. We have added some really cool additions to these units:

  • The internal circuit breaker has been replaced with a modern “manual reset” model that not only opens really fast, but also will stay open until you push the reset button on the back. The idea here is if you have a short circuit on your layout, this design allows you to find whatever problem caused the short circuit, and then reset the breaker. This system prevents damaging your trains, and most important stops the issue of overheating the transformer.
  • New a LED power on has been added, which glows green when powered up.
  • The original cord has been replaced, with a 3 wire cord with a grounding plug. Why? Because the transformers case is metal and like any other appliance or tool that you have the exposed metal should be grounded to stop any possibility of getting a shock. The internal transformer is mounted to the bottom case which is in turn connected to the outside metal case. Safety of our products is very important to us. This also makes phasing multiple transformers a breeze. Consequently please don’t even think about cutting the 3rd prong off.
  • The original rectifier has been changed with a modern, much more powerful diode. (Works way more better)
  • The  direction controls are checked and internally cleaned to insure another lifetimes usage.
  • The internal coils are also cleaned and polished.

We sell lots of these units, and do not take pictures of each and every transformer we sell. If the case was badly scratched up, we paint them. The front bezel may have some scratches caused by the speed control rubbing on the case. The unit pictured represents  an average cosmetic condition. If the top bezel is scratched, there’s not much we can do about that.  This like all our transformers will meet our goal of all our products of  having your great great great grandchildren open a tote of train stuff and it will still work as well as when you put it away.
